First, from 1868 to 1883, Chorleywood was a small town next to the main road. After that, it grew a lot around the railway station. The railway station was built in 1909.

In the third period, from 1922-1970, the city added new parts on both sides. In the last time, from 1970 to 1994, Chorleywood had new parts around the new motorway. The motorway was built in 1970.

Chorleywood was much bigger at the end, and there was Chorleywood Park and Golf Course.

During the first phase, which began in 1868 and lasted fifteen years, there was just a very small group of people living between a main road and the Chorleywood Park.

In the second period, starting in 1883 and ending in 1922, Chorleywood subsequently expanded to the southwest, as residents started spreading around the railway station, which was constructed in 1909. At the end of this period, Chorleywood was more than three times as large as its original size.

The town grew even larger during the third stage, which started in 1922 and continued until 1970. Then, instead of congregating around the station, residents migrated along the southern side of the railway, opposite the Chorleywood Park.

Finally, between 1970 and 1994, the village covered a much larger area than it had over the first period. In this final 24-year period, there was a huge number of buildings established along the two sides of the new motorway, which was built to the east in 1970.
